Jo's Whole Wheat Honey Bread
This is my favorite bread recipe. I got it years ago from a neighbor in Elgin who was really into natural foods, including goat's milk.
Ingredients:
Mix together:
2 pkg. dry yeast
2 1/2 c. warm water
Add:
2/3 c. dry milk
2/3 c. all-purpose flour
1 1/2 t. salt
Combine, then add to yeast mixture:
1/2 c. oil
1/4 c. honey
1 egg
Beat well; stir in (and knead in)
5 1/2 - 5 3/4 c. whole wheat flour
Instructions:
Knead 5 - 8 minutes.
Place in greased bowl, turning. Cover.
Rise 1 hour until double.
Punch down. Divide in half and put into loaf pans. Cover.
Rise 45 minutes.
Bake 35 - 40 minutes at 350'. (Mine usually takes a bit longer; check if done by thumping on bottom of bread for hollow sound.)
Enjoy!
